Ace Your Technology Interview

At Petram Search Group, we champion our candidates as we walk them through the interview process. While all of our candidates have applicable experience and technical expertise, they sometimes need a tune-up to their interviewing skills.

Here are just a few of the most common pieces of advice we provide as we coach candidates:

 

Review your technical skills

The Client will ask you technical questions to assess your proficiency. Self-study your skills and experience relevant to the position. Prepare to demonstrate your knowledge through examples or quickly recall the answers to complex questions. 

           > Will you be able to fill the Client’s talent gap?

 

Prepare for behavioral questions

Apart from technical questions, interviewers often ask behavioral questions aimed at understanding how candidates handle situations in the workplace. We suggest our candidates practice answering these questions using specific examples from past experiences. For example, an interviewer may prompt “Tell me about a time when you received negative feedback. How did you respond?” Read: How to Prepare for Behavioral Interview Questions

           > Do you navigate challenging or ambiguous situations with professionalism?

 

Show your communication skills

Any candidate must demonstrate a respectful and professional demeanor. Candidates should aim to attentively listen to interview panel members and return clear and intelligible answers. Not all members of the interview panel may be proficient with technology. Be prepared to explain technical concepts and procedures to non-technical stakeholders.

              > Will you be able to communicate effectively within the workplace?

 

While this information is valuable, we recommend our candidates fully utilize the provided individualized coaching. Many do not even realize they have a particular blind spot until pointed out by a skilled recruiter.
